ADOPTED: Preacher | Atlanta GA | 9-12mo

ADOPTED!

Name: Preacher

Age: 9-12 months

Location: Atlanta, GA

Preacher is a 9-12 month old Afghan Hound. He was found tied to a church and he loves to give sermons to the neighbors. He plays well with his foster brothers, who are all 50+ pounds. He especially loves chase, as one might expect. He takes play breaks to chew on toys in the yard. He thinks the couch is the best place in the house. He is shy at first, but incredibly sweet once he makes friends. He loves mud, water, and grass. He’s a picky eater and eats on his own schedule.

We are still working on house training, but he is crate trained. He did well with a potential adopter’s toddler, but does not currently live with kids. He has not been cat or small dog tested.

Contact Barb Hastings for any questions.

ADOPTED: Quismat

Quismat has been adopted!

  • Breed:  Afghan Hound
  • Age:  9.5 years
  • Color:  Blue cream brindle
  • Gender:  Male
  • Dogs:  Good with calm dogs
  • Cats:  Unknown
  • Kids:  Teens and up
  • Obedience:  Not required
  • Exercise:  Moderate
  • Fence:  Not required

Quismat is a handsome 10-year-old (DOB 12-19-15) Afghan Hound that was picked up wandering alone in a state park. He is microchipped but unfortunately it was discovered that his owner/breeder passed away in 2017 and it will remain a mystery on how he landed in Illinois from central Missouri all these years later. He seems to do well with older dogs of similar energy level and does well riding in a car and going into a crate if asked. Quismat recently had his spa day and did very well for his bath and grooming! He is a gentle old soul with good pep in his step.  We would love to find him an experienced Sighthound adopter where he can live out the remainder of his golden years.  Please note his current foster is well versed in Sighthounds rescuing an Afghan Hound in 1988 and personally owning and showing other Sighthound breeds since the early mid 90s and 2000s.

Thanks to Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus for the information and referral.

Roux, Female, Age 5 – ADOPTED

THIS DOG HAS BEEN ADOPTED AND IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE!

Roux is an active but very kind afghan hound female age 5. She is spayed and is a champion in conformation. She has trained in agility and could most likely trial with refresher training. She is excellent off leash on hikes but of course not to be trusted near traffic. She plays hard and would be best with a like minded male of the same size or as a single dog. Great with people and small dogs. We don’t recommend a home with a cat. She loves to cuddle, eats well and is good for grooming. Completely house trained. She can be “loud” when excited. A home experienced with afghans and a home that might have ambitions to do more than just have a couch ornament would be ideal. A fun girl!

Interested applicants should indicate on their application that they are interested in Roux specifically so we can inform the local club that has her.

Adopted: Evie in Tucson

Adopted!

Name: Evie

Age:  7

M/F: Female

Color: Black

Contact:  AffieRescue@aol.com,  205-588-9189, 251 Warwick Lane, Alabaster. Al. 35007

Evie is about 6 or 7 years old. She is shy but friendly when given time to acclimate to new people and dogs. She is being fostered with four Afghans and is fitting in with no problems. We don’t know how she would react to smaller dogs or cats. Evie has no interest in bunnies or birds.

Evie is a beta and doesn’t want to be the boss. She is house trained, crate trained, couch trained (loves the couches), and good on a leash.

Evie loves her walks and has finally gotten into eating well. She sleeps in a crate at night and feeds in one as well; she loves squeaky toys, furry squeaky toys.

She is fostered in Tucson, Arizona. She has been spayed and is up to date on shots.

If you are interested in adopting Evie, please send an email to: Affierescue@aol.com. We will send you an application and plan a home visit. There is an adoption fee.
